This tutorial was written for PSP9. If you are using PSP7 or 8, some of the paths to the various tools
and effects may be different, however all the effects are there, you might just have to hunt to find
them. I have added my brush in .jbr format for V7 users, however I cannot offer specific help on that
version. I have included lots of instructions and screen shots with the hope that anyone can do this
tutorial. I have most of my favorite effects on a toolbar but I have included the path to each effect
so it will be easy to find them if you are new to PSP. If you are more advanced, just skip along
at your own pace. I hope you enjoy doing this tutorial and if you have a question you can write

Paint Shop Pro 9, a 30 day trial program can be downloaded here.

Xero Filters
Click on Plugins, download Set 1 and Set 4. We will be
using Alien Mist from Set 1 and Fritillary from Set 4.
Don't forget to thank Pete for his awesome filters while you're there!!
If you already have the filters, please know Pete has done some updaates
so you may want to go download them again.
Unzip these into your Plugin folder.

The flower tube is {here} .
My brush tip gh_ swirlybrush-001 {here}. Version 7 brush {here}
V8 and 9 users import the brush into PSP.
V7 users extract the brush to C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 7\Brushes

Right click to save this image to your hard drive if you want to use the same royalty free image used in the tutorial.


This tutorial is written with instructions pertaining to the image above.
Feel free to pick another image and change your color choices according to your image.
All screen shots have been compressed to decrease loading time.

Open your image and tube in PSP. With the image as the active window go to Window/Duplicate.
Save and close your original image so you can use it again, we will work on the copy.
Change your forground color to #8a9792 and your background color to #3d4749.
Working on the image, go to Effects/Plugins/Xero/Alien Mist with these settings..

Mistiness 255 Strength 205 Red mist 255 Green mist 255 Blue mist 255

here's what you should have now..



Go to Layers/New Raster Layer. Name this layer brush.

Click on your brush tool and go to your preview window in the Tool Options Palette
Click on it and locate the brush named gh_ swirlybrush-001 in the drop down window.
The brush size should be 295. Now go to your image, you should see the brush outline....



{ if you don't have a brush outline, go to File/Preferences/General Program Preferences.
Click on the Display and Caching tab on check Show brush outlines. }
Position the brush in the upper left hand corner and left-click one time to apply
the brush with your foreground color.



Now we are going to erase the parts of the brush that are covering the roses.
Select your eraser tool and use these settings...
Shape Round, Size 25, Hardness 10, Step 1, Density 100, Thickness 100, Rotation 0, Opacity 30
and erase the brush from the roses. Take your time and get it all, zoom in so you can see better.
Now go to the Layer Palette and lower the opacity of the brush layer to 66...



Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow and use these settings
Vertical and Horizontal 1, Opacity 20, Blur 3, Color black #000000.
here's what you should have now..



Now we are going to frame it.
Go to Image/Add Borders. If you right-click on the color box you can pick your
foreground color #8a9792. For Size in Pixels~ 25. Also check Symmetric.
Using your Magic Wand Tool with settings of ....



Select your border. Go to Selections/Invert then go to Effects/3D Effects/Cutout, and use these settings...
Vertical and Horizontal 0, Opacity 60, blur 22. Then go to Selections/Select None.
Go to Image/Add Border. Right-click on the color box and pick the dark green color #3d4749.
Change your size to 1 and add a 1 pixel symmetric border.

Here's what you should have so far...



Go to Image/Add Borders. Right-click on the color box to switch back to the lighter
green #8a9792 and add a 25 pixel symmetric border,
Using your Magic Wand, same settings, select the border. Go to Effects/Plugins/Xero/Fritillary
and use these settings....
Granularity 2, Aggression 90, Tesselation 20, Variation 56

Keep selected and go to Layers/New Raster Layer. Name this layer' border fill'. Using your Flood Fill Tool fill the selection with #8a9792 (the lighter green) and lower the opacity of the 'border fill' layer to 50. Selections/Select None.
Here's what you should have so far...



Now open your FritillaryFrameRose_gh.psp tube, go to Edit/Copy. Then go
back to your image and go to Edit/Paste/Paste As New Layer.

Using your Mover Tool move the flower tube to the bottom,
right corner of the image. Position your flower like below...



Go to Effects/3D Effects/DropShadow and use these settings...
Vertical -4, Horizontal -3, Opacity 50, Blur 20.

Go to Image/Add Borders and add a 25 pixel symmetric border, color #8a9792.
Using your Magic Wand, same settings, select the border. Go to Effects/Xero/Fritillary
and use the same settings as the last step....

Go to Selections/Invert and then to Effects/3D Effects/Cutout and use these settings...
Vertical and Horizontal 0, Opacity 75, blur 22. Then go to Selections/Select None.

Go to Image/Add Borders and add a 1 pixel symmetric border with the darker green #3d4749. That's it! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial!

If you would like to make a matching seamless background tile, open a new 200 x 200 pixel image, color #8a9792. Go to Effects/Plugins/Xero/Fritillary and apply the same settings as the frame. That's it!
You can use it as is, or add a new layer and flood fill it with the light green.#8a9792
Lower the opacity of that layer until you like the effect, then merge them.
